John Christie was born in Northowram, in West Riding of Yorkshire, England in 1899. He won a scholarship to a prestigious school in Halifax, where his IQ found to be 128 and enjoyed classes such as maths, history and woodwork.

Christie had issues with impotence and was given cruel nicknames such as “Reggie-no-dick” and “Can’t-do-it-Christie”. The issue continued throughout his life, amounting to only having ‘successful’ intercourse with sex workers.
